  • During the last week we were able to successfully perform the 50th pain intervention in the open MRI. Back pain is considered to be number one among common diseases in Europe. 90% of all Germans will suffer from back pain at one point in their life. Disk protrusions and herniations can be the cause of nerve irritation in the cervical and lumbar spine. For the afflicted this can mean severe pain and a substantial constraint on their range of motion. The open MRI offers the possibility of detailed depiction and differentiation of vital structures, such as the nerve root and...

The inofficial record so far has was four heads. In addition, we planned images with eight heads. And finally, we registered our six and eight head images with the editors of the most important collection of records worldwide.

  • Today our research group’s first problem based study session was held. A case was presented and worked on by six of our project members. Over the next six weeks a total of five study cases involving clinical and physical issues of MRI will be worked on. Apart from medical research, we are also concerned about the transfer and exchange of the knowlege between our group’s members and partners. Herein, it is important to find innovative methods which permit the transfer of expertise on the rapid developements within our field of research. As a part of our project, and in cooperation...

  • As a premiere, the first laser-guided ablation of a osteoid osteoma of the fibula was performed last week. The first patient could be treated successfully for osteoid osteoma of the fibula under full anesthesia in an open high-field MRI (Panorama HFO, 1.0 Tesla). The tumor lesion was localized, drilled and finally ablated by a laser fiber. Up until now such procedures were either performed as an open surgery or under CT or x-ray guidance with radio frequency ablation (RFA). Hence, ionizing radiation is applied. Now this procedure is possible in the open MRI without the usage of ionizing radiation, which...
