Technology Foundation Berlin
The technology fundation of Berlin (TSB) is a private organization. The foundation is made up of various banks and economic partners in and around Berlin. The state of Berlin further invested in the common stock capital. The foundation’s objective is to fund and advance research, science and eductaion of scientific technologies.
Zukunftsfonds Berlin
In January 2001 Berlin entrusted the Technologiestiftung Berlin (TSB) with the management of the Zukunftsfonds Berlin. The Zukunftsfonds, set up with resources released by the privatization of the Berliner Wasserbetriebe, mainly gives grants to innovative projects with strategic impact on the region. In accordance with the Berlin’s innovation strategy, the current focus is on biotechnology and medical technology, information and communication and traffic technology.
The Zukunftsfonds does not replace existing programs but supplements them. Preference will be given to projects which will potentially lead to financial returns to the fund (i.e. loans, investments). Instead of fully financing projects, co-financing with other granting programs and equity is usually required.
Financial aspects of all projects are handled by the Investitionsbank Berlin. The IBB further manages payment transactions of the fund.
