Engineering instruments for the open HF-MRI

Research

In all sub-projects, we were able to fulfill all the time line criteria. The first high-field MRI compatible instrument prototypes for minimal invasive surgery are now available to our research group (no public distribution). In part, we have completed the development of new clinical methods for high-field open MRI. Further methods are still under research in our various sub-projects. Moreover, we have published and analyzed the data we have so far amassed and have applied some of the procedures and products for patent. Once the patents have been approved, we will supply more information here.

So far completed goals of our grant agreement:

  • Article for the yearbook “Health city Berlin”.
  • Project coordination and individual definition of goals.
  • Establishment of infrastructure (offices).
  • Forum for presentation (www.microtherapy-berlin.com and press portfolio).
  • Detailed assessment of relevant materials for development of MR-compatible instruments.
  • Congress presentation with Philips for ISMRM to present our project.
  • Successful treatment of liver tumors with cytostatic coated balloon catheter.
  • Completion of a model high-resolution MR-compatible CCD camera head with 1024*1280 pixel resolution for endoscopy in the iso-center of open high-field MRI up to 3.0Tesla. Substantial development by World of Medicine (W.O.M., Lemke GmbH Berlin). In vitro assessment in open MRI by diagnostic and interventional radiology department CC6, Charité; university medicine.
  • Development of an MR signal-inducing bone cement.
  • Development of a concept for interactive instrument localization in MRI.
  • Establishment of a clinical method for minimally invasive liver resection by laser in a procine model.
  • Design of a MR-compatible model for training of endoscopy under MR-guidance.
  • Optimizing of MR puls-sequences for each of the sub-projects.
